The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) received
information regarding two websites being used for pyramid schemes.
SLCERT information security engineer Roshan Chanrdagupta said they
received information yesterday regarding pyramid schemes being carried
out over the internet.
“Such pyramid schemes have been banned by the Central Bank of Sri
Lanka. However, a numbers of persons are using the internet to carry out
pyramid schemes,” he said.
The SLCERT is investigating the websites used for pyramid schemes,
Chanrdagupta said. Sri Lanka Central Bank sources said the promotion of
pyramid schemes has been banned in Sri Lanka. “We have taken legal
action against persons islandwide for promoting pyramid schemes while
violating the Banking Act,” the sources said.
The Central Bank and the SLCERT warning the public of pyramid
schemes, said legal action will be taken against those found involved in
these schemes. |
