Bicycles for schoolchildren
Irangika Range
The National Transport Commission (NTC) will distribute new bicycles
among 200 schoolchildren selected from remote areas in the Walapane
Divisional Secretariat division.
NTC Chairman Roshan Gunawardene said the Private Transport Services
Ministry in collaboration with the NTC has initiated a project called
Sisu Seriya to provide free bicycles for students above 12 years in
remote areas with an insufficient public transport service.
He said the aim of the government is to provide the best for the
children, adding the government is interested in the education of
children as much as the development of the country.
"The government is spending a large sum of money on education. It is
assisting schoolchildren with aid from the government as well as private
sector organisations," he said. |
