ETF to increase its scholarship grants

The Employees Trust Fund (ETF) will increase its scholarship grants allocation to Rs 105 million for all children of the ETF board members who excelled in 2012 Grade Five Scholarship Examinations, under the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Accordingly, 7,000 students will receive Rs 15,000 each this year. This sum will be deposited in the recipients Sisu Udana People's Bank accounts.

This scholarship system for the children of the ETF board members was started in 1994 when President Rajapaksa was the Labour and Vocational Training Minister.

EPF Board chairman K M A Godawattha said measures were taken to increase the number of scholarships this year under a special instruction from the President.
