The Health Ministry has commenced a special programme to computerize
data of patients who seek treatment at state hospitals.
The main objective of this programme is providing a better and
accurate health care system for the public, a Health Ministry spokesman
said.
According to the spokesman, the National Programme of Computerizing
Citizen Health Reports costing Rs 10 million was launched as a pilot
project at the Avissawella Base Hospital recently. "This new system will
provide information to doctors by storing data of patients for future
use.
Traditional modes of data storage is a waste of funds and takes up
space etc.
But this new system offers a better way to store data in state
hospitals and helps doctors treat patients more easily as important
details, such as, the history of the disease/sickness of the patient is
available at their fingertips," he said.
