Mini Basketball coaching camp

The second fastest game in the world basketball is being taught for the 14th successive year to the children between the age of 04 years and 13 years under the theme “Know to play and How to Play Basketball” by the Sri Lanka Veterans’ Basketball Association said former Beneditine, well-known National Basketball player, President of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation and Present President of the Sri Lanka Veterans’ Basketball Association Malsiri Perera.

He further said that Mini Basketball Coaching Programme was launched with the support of the Committee of Management of the Otter Aquatic Club in year 1999 and this programme have produced nearly 1,800 players who are now representing leading Schools/Mercantile organizations and the Sri Lanka National Teams.

It will be conducted at Otters AC on and 13, 2013. The boys and girls are trained by leading coaches who have produced very good results at the inter-school Basketball tournaments and have earned high reputation for their excellent public relation maintained with the schoolchildren and their parents. The last Mini Basketball Carnival was conducted last month with participation of nearly 50 children from different ages at the Royal Indoor Court, which was very success.

At the end of the carnival each player was given a Basketball, Bag to keep the playing kit and more surprises to encourage the youngsters to continue playing this game. The carnival is held once in six months to enable the players to join the school teams, said Malsiri.

Malsiri further said that the practices will be held on all Saturdays from 8.00 am to 10.00 am, Sundays from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm and Poya Days from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm. All practices will be conducted at Otter Aquatic Club Basketball Court, Bauddhaloka Mawatha (near BMICH). The Registration will be on Saturday 12th January 2013 at 8.00 am and Sunday 13th January 2013 at 4.00 pm at the venue.

A nominal fee of Rs 1,000 per month will be levied for the training programme (9 days and 18 hrs). Children of the members of the Otter Aquatic Club will be given a concession.
