Rain fills 47 minor tanks

About 47 minor tanks in the North Western Province filled with water,
due to recent rains, Provincial Irrigation Ministry Spokesman told the
‘Daily News’ yesterday.
He said Bathalagoda, Thampana, Ranthaliya, Wennoruwewa and
Magollawewa water levels have increased significantly.
Deputy Agrarian Services Commissioner W Wijeratne said thousands of
acres of paddy fields had been washed away in Kurunegala and Puttalam
districts due to the floods.
He said the Agrarian Services Ministry has taken steps to provide
seed paddy free to the farmers for cultivation. |
