Floods destroy paddy fields

Paddy fields being prepared for the Maha cultivation in Sainthamaruthu and Maligaikadu in the Ampara district have been destroyed by the recent floods.

A vast area of paddy fields have been destroyed, farmers said. Meanwhile, vegetable cultivation in the Ampara district has also been destroyed due to the adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, students of Kalmunai Zahira College organised a free medical camp for flood-affected families. It was held at Maligakadu al- Hussain Vidyalaya. A large crowd sought treatment at the medical camp.

Patients were treated for skin and eye diseases, heart ailments and other issues free of charge. They were also provided free medicine.
