Adopt alternative measures to overcome natural disasters - CM

People cannot succeed in life unless they adopt alternative measures to overcome natural disasters, North Central Province Chief Minister S M Ranjith Samarakoon said when he visited people displaced by floods owing to the overflowing of the Malwatu Oya recently.

He said man cannot control nature.

"But man today was facing the repercussions of doing things against nature," he said.

"Rain, flood, drought and cyclones were facets of nature. If we were to face them, we should get over the self-willed nature of living," Samarakoon said.

The Malwatu Oya overflows every year. Although alternative land had been identified to resettle people whose houses are affected by floods, some had rejected the land offered and refused to move out, he said.

The Chief Minister said he was willing to provide fertile land from Katukaliyawa to families getting displaced by Malwatu Oya floods.

Anuradhapura Mayor H P Somadasa was also present.
