CA Sri Lanka EDEX Expo's Gold Sponsor for third time

For the third consecutive year, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) will be a Gold Sponsor of the 10th EDEX Expo in 2013.

CA Sri Lanka is one of the country's largest professional organisations which give leadership and insight to its 4,300 members spread across the globe. The Institute maintains its stature as a professional body, actively promoting the best practices in the industry whilst promoting business, finance, management and good governance.

CA Sri Lanka's student base of over 37,000 benefits immensely from its professionalism and the large number speaks volumes making it the largest tertiary education provider in the country, outside the university system.

CA Sri Lanka President Sujeewa Rajapakse emphasised that as one of the country's largest education service providers, the Institute always looks at attracting the best and brightest of students and hence the EDEX Expo has been identified as an excellent platform to attract students of such caliber.

"As EDEX is now reaching out to urban and semi urban areas with multiple initiatives, it gives the Institute more access to encourage students from other parts of the country to join the Institute, thereby attracting a larger and more diverse student base," Rajapakse said.

The President also noted that CA Sri Lanka's association with EDEX during the previous years proved to be a successful partnership, with the Institute's stall attracting a very impressive number of students who showed keen interest in taking up Chartered Accountancy as a career.

"In this day and age when competition is at its highest pinnacle, the CA qualification has been designed to provide students with an extensive knowledge. The Chartered Accountant is a professional in the field of Accountancy - well versed in the subjects of accountancy, auditing, management accountancy, information technology, taxation, corporate and commercial law, financial management, management, economics and other connected subjects," Rajapakse said.

"This broad spectrum which is covered in the study course together with the completion of specified training requirements provided by over 600 training partners from industries both in public practice and non-public practice sectors provide students with the chance to learn first-hand the ethical application of business practices in the training environment and has thereby today made Chartered Accountants to be among the most sought after professionals globally," he added.

"Today, Chartered Accountants contribute significantly to the country's economic growth and stability. CA Sri Lanka qualified accountants play a major role in almost every sphere locally and overseas. Approximately 60 percent of the top 50 companies listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange have at least one CA Sri Lanka qualified professional appointed in to their respective director boards," he said.

"Despite global economic setbacks from time to time, there is an impressive increase in employment opportunities for Chartered Accountants in all sectors of the economy. Chartered Accountants are in high demand right now and play a pivotal role in even shaping Sri Lanka's economic outlook," Rajapakse added. Rajapakse stated that of the 4,300 CA Sri Lanka members, approximately 30 percent of the membership is serving overseas in various managerial level positions covering a diverse range of sectors. This alone is testament to the Institute's global recognition in accountancy.

EDEX is extremely glad that a professional organization in the caliber of CA Sri Lanka with a significant membership, continuing its sponsoring of EDEX Expo 2013 in the Gold category, paving the way for the youth to play a pivotal role in shaping Sri Lanka's economy as qualified Accountants, Chairman of EDEX, Kamal Abeysinghe said.

EDEX Expo 2013, Sri Lanka's largest Education and Careers Exhibition organized by the Royal College Union will be held on January 18, 19 & 20 at BMICH Colombo and on January 25 & 26 at the Kandy City Centre, respectively.
