Floods prevent students from making it to exam hall

A number of students sitting the GCE OL Examination failed to make it to the examination halls due to Ambanganga overflowing following heavy rains, reports said.

It was reported that 27 students from Habarawa Junior School in the Naula Education Division could not go to Kornhgahawela Examination Centre yesterday due to roads being impassable as a result of the overflowing of Ambanganga.

The students were unable to sit the mathematics paper yesterday. Another group of students

from Opallegala Vidyalaya who were late to reach the examination centre due to the roads going under water managed to sit for the paper as officials at the Examination Centre made an exception, Education Office sources said. "Education officials tried their best to send the examination papers to another centre away from Habarawa village, but, heavy rains put paid to their attempt, "sources added. Central Province Chief MInister Sarath Eknayake told the media that he had discussions with the Examinations Commissioner about the prevailing situation and he would do his best to do justice to the students who were prevented from sitting for the examination as a result of the inclement weather.
