Racing STARS crowned at CEAT SLARDAR Awards Night

The riders and drivers who entertained crowds during the 2012 Sri
Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) racing season
were rewarded at a colourful gala event, the CEAT-SLARDAR Championship
Awards Night on Saturday night.

In honour of their classic performances during the season, the four
most prestigious championship awards were presented to drivers Dinesh
Deheregoda, Ashan Silva and to riders Gayan Sandaruwan and Jacques
Gunawardena.
Deheragoda won his fifth SLARDAR SLGT Super Car championship and
Ashan Silva also secured his crown in the SL H 1600 category with a
convincing lead over his fellow competitors.
Sri Lanka’s most recognized motocross rider Gayan Sandaruwan (MX
Racing up to 250cc) secured the top slot in the points table of his
category and regained his SLARDAR Championship crown affter missing the
award in the previous year to India’s K P Aravindh.
The promising youngster, 13 year old Jacques Gunawardena (MX Racing
up to 85cc) became the under 16 champion. A notable award winner at the
2012 gala, Upulwan Serasinghe won both SL-N Ford Laser/Mazda up to
1500cc and 1300cc awards, the later for the fourth consecutive year. He
and his Team Daredevil partner Ashan Silva teamed up together to bagged
the inaugural Team Championship Award too.
The event was supported by title sponsor of the SLARDAR and tyre
maker CEAT Kelani Holdings, for the third consecutive year.
CEAT SLARDAR 1000 Rally 2012 winners Samin Attanayake and Co Driver
Rahal Uduwita were also recognized for their performance.
A total of 19 awards were on offer for the winning riders and drivers
at race meets conducted throughout the year by the SLARDAR.
