Annual Distinguished Oration
The inaugural Annual Distinguished Keynote Oration of the Centre for
Gender Studies of the University of Kelaniya will be held at the
university's staff development course auditorium on December 12 at 2pm.
It is organised by Professor Savitri Goonesekere.
The oration, titled 'Social transformation, gender equality and
violence against women in contemporary Sri Lanka' will be streamed live

A viridu singer who boarded a Colombo bound bus from Alutgama, threw
away a five rupee coin given by a passenger saying: "What can I do with
five rupees".
He was reciting viridu in an insulting tone and passengers were
reluctant to give him money.
When he tried to get off the bus, a sympathetic passenger gave him a
five rupee coin.
The viridu player threw the coin and ran off.

Workforce felicitated

Chairman and Board of Directors of the Stallion Plantations which
manages two primier Tea Estates, the Goden and Waldemar in the
Udapussellawa Plantation region felicitated its large workforce with
gifts and mementos at a function held in the group.
Do you know boy’s parents?
A four year boy was found sobbing at the fort railway station on June
29, 2012. The Child and Women's Department of Fort Police produced him
before the children's court at Battaramulla on June 30. On the order of
the courts, he was sent to Lankadara Children's Home, Wellawatte.
He was again produced before the children's court and the magistrate
ordered to publish a photograph of the child in newspapers to find out
his parents or anyone knows about him. The child is 2 ½ feet tall and
dark in complexion.

Free English course for new Bhikkus
The Mohan Lal Grero Foundation has called application from newly
ordained Bhikkus to fallow a free English course at the institute.
The English course will include grammar, correct use of language in
preaching dhamma and to participate in religious discussions. There will
be theory and practical classes on every Thursday and Friday from 8.30
am to 6.00 pm at Lyceum International School at Nugegoda.
Applications should be addressed to Mohan Lal Grero Foundation, No
18, Peters Place, Nugegoda on or before December 20. The title, Bhikku
English course, should be given on the envelope.
