Twenty five selected students of the Nandarama Tamil Dhamma School in Jaffna will each have Rs 1,000 deposited in a bank account for two months courtesy World Hindu Buddhist Association President L Logeswaran. Ravi Kumar said charity is needed for the continuation of the Dhamma school activities and donations from any quarters will be most welcome.

He said the Thiyahie Charity Trust has also agreed to make a donation. The programme of the Dhamma School is designed to attract students who enjoy the new programme.

However, the Nandarama Dhamma School does not have enough facilities to conduct this programme in a proper way. It is better if the Dhamma school can provide an allowance to the teachers. Only a few desks and benches are available for the students although many children like to attend Dhamma lessons , he said. It is not proper to stop children who wish to learn the Dhamma, Ravi Kumar said. Also Dhamma School is in need of a computer, he said.

Ravi Kumar said the Nandarama Tami Dhamma School is indebted to the the World Hindu Buddhist Association for their kind support to launch the programme. Under the assistance of All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Vice President Sudath Madugalle, the Nandarama Tamil Dhamma school was able to obtain a premises to conduct the Dhamma school.

The Sri Lanka Army provided labour to build a hut, he said. Each child is provided with one uniform. The Dhamma school is held twice a week. It is better if the children can be provided with another uniform, he said.

“The Dhamma School programme is being operated through the personal funds of Naga Vihara Podi Hamuduruwo (Viharadhikari Siriwimala Thera) and myself. Anybody who wishes to provide donations, can do so by remitting monies into account number 74003578 – Bank of Ceylon Chunnakam Branch to the credit of Nandarama Tamil Buddhist Dhamma School.

They could also contact contact 0718329010 (Siriwimala Thera) and Ravi Kumar on 0711277373.
