Kaveesha and Lochana following in their father’s footsteps

Kaveesha Ekanayake, a student of Girls High School, Kandy led the
Junior Netball team of the school, earlier and is now representing the
senior team. She was
selected for the Sri Lanka under 19 team for an
International Netball Tournament at Waverly, Australia in July 2012 and
the team became group champions. This under 19 Sri Lanka team achieved
this feat after 17 years. Kaveesha also represented Sri Lanka at the
Pesta Bola International Netball Championship in Penang, Malaysia in
October, 2012.
Her brother Lochana Ekanayake, a student of Dharmaraja College, Kandy
is also an outstanding sportsman who represented Sri Lanka under 18
Rugby team at the Commonwealth Youth Games Held in Isle of Man in the
year 2011. This year too he was selected for the Sri Lanka Youth Rugby
team for the Asian Rugby tournament held in Sri Lanka.
In school he excelled in cricket badminton soccer and weight lifting.
For his excellent performance in, rugby he was awarded the coveted
“Dagaba’ award at the Colours Nite of the school held recently.
Their father C.S. Ekanayake led the Dharmaraja Rugby team and also
represented Kandy Sports Club, Up Country and president's XV. He was
also in the Sri Lanka Rugby pool in 1987 and 1988. Their mother Sabodini
Ekanayake represented the netball and athletic teams at St. Anthony's
Girls School, Katugastota. |
