Eight asylum seekers opt to return
Another eight Sri Lankan asylum seekers who sailed illegally to
Australia by boat have opted to return. The Department of Immigration
and Citizenship (Australia) informed that the eight men who were in
detention on Nauru, left Australia on Saturday.
They returned home voluntarily. The Department of Immigration and
Citizenship (Australia) declares that the regular transfer to Nauru and
more Sri Lankans returning home is further proof that there is no
advantage engaging with people smugglers.
The number of Sri Lankans who have returned home, both voluntarily
and involuntarily, is 332, according to the department's information.
The Sri Lanka Navy is on alert around the country's maritime borders
taking measures to turn back illegal boats.
