Rain brings bumper tea harvest
Ariyapala Wansathilake - Kurunegala Central Special
The prevailing rains benefited the tea small-holders in Moratenna,
Pitakanda, Mawathagama and Notin Hill group who were lucky enough to
collect a rich harvest of green tea leaves.
During the recent drought they were able to collect 8-10 kilos of
green tea leaves from one acre of land where as now it is more than
200-300 kilos.
The only problem they face is lack of labourers according to the tea
small-holders.
Several roads in Kurunegala district are badly damaged due to heavy
rains. |
