With the help of an outstanding performance, Avant Garde Basketball
Club tamed Sri Lanka Police Sports Club by 60 points to 45 after a
thrilling match in the ongoing Carlton Cup Basketball Tournament at
Henry Pedris Courts, Colombo yesterday.
Avant BC dominated the game maintaining the lead in all four
quarters. Although Police entered the game with a superb start, Avant
Garde lads snatched the lead with their fine teamwork in the first
quarter, posting a six-point-lead in the first quarter scoring 16 points
while restricting the opponents to 10 points.
Avant BC widened their gap and restricted the rivals to 21 points to
enjoy the break with confidence. Avent led 41-21 at halftime.
The match continued despite the slight drizzle which turned the
conditions more harder for Police SC.
Though Police SC struggled hard, they couldn't live up to
expectations. This helped Avant players to make inroads to their success
with some powerful moves. Avant Garde reigned supreme by closing the
match 60-45 in their favour.
For the winners, Diluk Fernando and Christy Krishanthan scored 16
points each and Tharindu Rupasinghe contributed with 13 points. For
Police SC A.Shahen was the main contributor with 10 points while Sujith
Jeewantha and K.Chathura scored seven points each.
