Medical advice goes online
The public can receive medical advice online.
The website, www.edoctor.lk, was launched last month with the
objective of providing medical advice and health information to the
public online.
Dr. Harsha Jayakody, the founder of edoctor says "with busy day to
day life, the people seem to neglect their health and end up with
serious conditions." The web based service provides them an opportunity
to obtain medical advice at their convenience at the initial stage of
any illness or any medical problem.
The people can reach edoctor from home, office, at work, even on the
move via the Internet. A panel of doctors, registered with the Sri Lanka
Medical Council is ready to answer medical and surgical queries.
This service can save a lot of time for people and also prevent
unwanted delays. There are lots of sub-specialties in the filed of
medicine.
It's not just the physicians and surgeons who look after the ill.
There are specialists for each organ in the body. edoctor will be able
to direct you to appropriate care and find the availability of such care
in the private and the government sector.
The edoctor service can help in early diagnosis and treatment to
ailments by advising appropriate investigations prior to a consultation
with a doctor which would save time. The service can help with the
interpretation of such reports and give advice on precautions to take
until a doctor is consulted.
Dr Jayakody says "edoctor service is not a replacement to consulting
a doctor. It can, however, provide initial medical advice which can be
obtained from home."
The people can obtain advice without revealing their identity, he
said.
