Bharatha killing:
Seventeen suspects re-remanded

Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday further
remanded, until November 6, the 17 suspects who had been remanded
earlier in connection with the assassination of Presidential Trade Union
Advisor, former Colombo District Parliamentarian Bharatha Lakshman
Premachandra.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducting investigations
into the Mulleriyawa killing told the Magistrate earlier that they have
completed the investigations into the killing at Mulleriya and forwarded
the dossier of the investigations to the Attorney General to obtain his
advice.
President’s Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya, earlier, submitted a
statement obtained from MP Duminda Silva, who is warded at the Elizebath
Hospital in Singapore, along with a medical report on his medical
condition before the Magistrate.
CID ASP Shani Abeysekera who appeared for the prosecution with Chief
Inspector Ranga Lamahewa also submitted to court that the Duminda
Silva’s statement and the medical report had been forwarded to the
Attorney General to obtain his advice.
The special CID team deployed by the CID DIG, earlier, had recovered
two T56 weapons, two pistols and two revolvers and questioned 37 persons
including security personnel who were present at the scene on the day of
the incident. President’s Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe, Attorneys Jagath
Abeywardena and Upul Kuruppuarachchi appeared for some suspects.
