Sri Lanka/Maldives Chevening Cambridge Scholasrships
Applications for Chevening Scholarships - the prestigious global
scholarship programme of the UK government and the Cambridge
Commonwealth Trust (CCT) co-funded Sri Lanka/Maldives Chevening
Cambridge Scholarships are now open. The application period runs from
October 29 to December 20 , 2012.
The Scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals with
leadership potential.
Awards are typically for a one-year Masters degree, in any subject
and at any UK university and aim to support UK foreign policy priorities
by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders,
influencers and decision makers around the world.
Acting UK High Commissioner Robbie Bulloch, said: The Chevening
programme provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals 'future
leaders' to establish social, cultural, academic or commercial
partnerships with the UK and build a global network of continuing
professional significance. This year, the FCO and the Chevening
Scholarships Secretariat have launched our global website,
www.chevening.org.
The Chevening Scholarships, which are funded by the UK Foreign and
Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, operate in over 100
countries worldwide, and this year will support about 700 students.
They have been awarded in Sri Lanka and Maldives since 1983, the year
the programme was established. So far, about 100 scholars from Sri Lanka
and Maldives have been to the UK on post-graduate courses in various
fields of study.
The Chevening Cambridge Scholarship for Sri Lanka and the Maldives is
offered by the British High Commission Colombo and the Cambridge
Commonwealth Trust.
The scholarship is tenable only at the University of Cambridge, but
forms part of the wide span of Chevening scholarships worldwide.
The award is targeted at students who meet the Chevening criteria of
academic excellence, high motivation and potential leadership qualities,
and who can fulfil the rigorous admission criteria of the University of
Cambridge.
Both scholarship schemes are opened to graduates in the early- to
mid-stages of their professional or academic career in the
government/private sector or at a non-governmental organisation. The
emphasis is on study at the postgraduate level.
Priority subject areas vary from country to country and applicants
should check the country pages of www.chevening.org before submitting an
application for a Chevening Scholarship.
