The Irrigation and Water Management Ministry has confirmed that due
to present rainy weather, water levels at reservoirs have increased
significantly, a Ministry Spokesman said.
The Ministry reports that eventhough water levels in the Mahaweli,
Kelani and Walawa reservoirs have increased, the levels are inadequate
to supply for cultivation purposes.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Water Management Ministry has warned
farmers involved in paddy and crop production to take into account the
prevailing weather conditions.
The Spokesman further said that despite the rains being experienced
in the country, many reservoirs s which have been parched are still to
be filled with water sufficient for agricultural purposes.
Further the Ministry has warned that, present water levels in
reservoirs are not adequate to commence major cultivations. However, f
subsidiary crop cultivations could be commenced under the present
situation.
