Major leak as oil pipe bursts in Orugodawatta
CHAMIKARA WEERASINGHE
Ceylon Petroleum Storage and and Terminals Limited (CPSTL) Chairman
and Managing Director Maj. Gen. (retired) M R W De Zoysa yesterday said
the infrastructure at the Kolonnawa Facility's Orugodawatta oil storage
farm is far too old and must be repaired at once.
He said this on being inquired by the Daily News about a pipe line of
the Orugodawatta that leaked oil to the surface of the road with rain
water yesterday.
The people in the area gathered round the spot and collected crude
oil from the leaking pipe. Asked about the loss that the leaking crude
oil pipeline has caused,CPSTL Chairman Zoysa said, " it was a minor
leak. And it was not the only pipeline that has leaked during the rain."
"There was another crude oil pipeline leak in the morning at
Mahawatta, in the Mattakkuliya area," he said.
"Two new pipelines had to be laid from Colombo harbor to Kolonnawa
oil storage facility to prevent future oil leaks as such ," he
explained.
