Landslide threat in Kurunegala

Heavy rains in the Kurunegala District have caused landslide threats in Morathiha, Erapolakanda and Babaragahakanda in Dodangaslanda electorate. People in these areas have been temporarily evacuated to safer locations.

Low laying areas of Galgamuwa, Ambanpola, Giribawa, Maho, Padeniya, Wariyapola are reported to be heavily flooded. Five houses and three school buildings at Galgamuwa, Buddhangala area have been damaged. Crops too have been washed away according to latest reports. Kurunegala District Disaster Management Unit Director W.S.M.B. Wanninayake said yesterday that they briefed Disaster Management Units in the NWP under the direction of Chief Secretary H.M.P. Hitisekara.
