The country’s hydro power generation capacity rose to 43 percent by
Monday with the heavy rains being experienced in the catchment areas,
the Ceylon Electricity Board said yesterday. The CEB said the reservoir
storage which stood as low as 15 percent during the past few months, had
risen up to about 40 percent now.
The CEB generated 9.5 GWh of hydro power on Monday. The catchment
areas are experiencing heavy rains these days, after three monsoons
failed to bring the expected amount of rainfall.
The CEB said the reservoir storage hopefully would rise up to about
80 percent by the end of the current monsoon enabling the Board to reach
maximum hydro power generation capacity in the coming months.
