Rotary Breast Cancer Awareness Week begins today
The Rotary Club of Colombo will launch a 'Breast Cancer Awareness
Week' at the Centre at Narahepita.
The awareness week, which will be held from today to Friday, will
focus on prevention and early detection of breast cancer through
consultation, screening and awareness activities, conducted by doctors
and nurses.
The Club also commenced the distribution of an awareness building
booklet The Road to Cancer Prevention printed in all three languages and
with focus on breast cancer.
This will be distributed through the Rotary network comprising of 65
Clubs. It is also planned to make available the booklet, mainly in
Sinhala and Tamil, to 700 Well Women Clinics islandwide operated by the
Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, the Club's membership have distributed the booklet at
their work places particularly where there is a high concentration of
female workers such as the apparel industry.
These awareness building activities will continue throughout the
year.
The Rotary Club of Colombo, eight years ago, launched their life
saving project for screening and early detection of cancer, conducted
through the National Cancer Early Detection Centre set up by the Club
and operated by the National Cancer Control Programme of the Health
Ministry. |
