Flash floods submerge A'pura

Flash floods caused by torrential rains which lashed Anuradhapura on Saturday afternoon submerged several houses in the Police and Irrigation Housing schemes.

Some of the houses were under four feet of water which did not recede till Sunday.

The floods were caused since the drainage system including culverts had still not been completed due to the ongoing rehabilitation work of the new Kandy road, residents said.

Clarification

With reference to the news item appearing in the Daily News on October 09, 2012 under the caption “Two Koreans killed” we have inadvertently mentioned that two Korean nationals, a man and a woman were killed when a group of tourists were struck by lightning.

It should have read “Two Korean volunteers of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) died when they were struck by lightning while sightseeing at Lypton City, Dambetenna in Haputale on Saturday evening. “The oversight is regretted.

Training workshops

A series of training workshops jointly organised by the Anuradhapura Hospital Clinical Society, Rajarata University Medical Faculty and the Heart Specialists Association will be held at the Anuradhapaura Teaching Hospital Auditorium from October 16 to 18.
