Royal win Water Polo Match

Royal College, once again showed their supremacy when they trounced
their traditional rivals S.Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia by five goals
to one in the 21st Dr R.L.Hayman memorial trophy match played at
Sugathasa Stadium Pool Complex yesterday.
Royal came down the way in the first quarter with a goal by Sandeepa
Deheragoda. Again Royal scored a goal patiently through Shan
Lakshitha.The Thomians were unable to penetrate the Royalists score as
they had a strong defence and at the end of first quarter it was 2 – 0 .
In the second quarter, only the Reid Avenue School was among the
scores thanks to a goal by Chandula Fernando(3 – 0 )
The lads from Mount Lavinia succeed their attempt, when Deelaka
Weeraratne scored the first goals for Thomians. Royal College hit back
with a fine goal by Rifath Uwais(4-1).
In the last few minutes of the third quarter Kanitha Munasinghe
powerfully whipped in a goal to strengthen the Royal’s lead (5 – 1)
The Royalists were sitting pretty on a 5 – 1 lead and seemed for all
money to have clinched the contest in the fourth quarter .S.Thomas’
College was in a dying stage of the game and couldn’t pose much threats
to their rival.In the last quarter, no one scored any goals which helped
Royal to seal the match in favour of them .
However the victory of the Thomians in their under 15 match gave them
something to cheer about when they outclassed Royal College by 12 goals
to seven goals.
Shakya Gunaratne was the highest scorer for Thomians with four goals
while Gavin Chanuka was the highest scorer for Royalists with three
goals |
