Royal win Water Polo Match

Royal College, once again showed their supremacy when they trounced their traditional rivals S.Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia by five goals to one in the 21st Dr R.L.Hayman memorial trophy match played at Sugathasa Stadium Pool Complex yesterday.

Royal came down the way in the first quarter with a goal by Sandeepa Deheragoda. Again Royal scored a goal patiently through Shan Lakshitha. The Thomians were unable to penetrate the Royalists score as they had a strong defence and at the end of first quarter it was 2 – 0 .

In the second quarter, only the Reid Avenue School was among the scores thanks to a goal by Chandula Fernando(3 – 0 )

The lads from Mount Lavinia succeed their attempt, when Deelaka Weeraratne scored the first goals for Thomians. Royal College hit back with a fine goal by Rifath Uwais(4-1).

In the last few minutes of the third quarter Kanitha Munasinghe powerfully whipped in a goal to strengthen the Royal’s lead (5 – 1)

The Royalists were sitting pretty on a 5 – 1 lead and seemed for all money to have clinched the contest in the fourth quarter .S.Thomas’ College was in a dying stage of the game and couldn’t pose much threats to their rival. In the last quarter, no one scored any goals which helped Royal to seal the match in favour of them .

However the victory of the Thomians in their under 15 match gave them something to cheer about when they outclassed Royal College by 12 goals to seven goals.

Shakya Gunaratne was the highest scorer for Thomians with four goals while Gavin Chanuka was the highest scorer for Royalists with three goals
