Twelve years RI for murder

A person who pleaded guilty to killing a woman was sentenced to 12
years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 15,000 in default of six months
simple imprisonment by Chilaw Provincial High Court Judge Malanee
Gunaratne.
The accused, a father of three of Hirana, Panadura, was indicted by
the Attorney General with committing the murder of Wijayahewage Anuska
de Silva, 32, of Hirana on November 30, 2004 by stabbing.
The judge said this was a brutal murder according to the medical
report of the JMO. There were 18 injuiries on the body of the woman
alleged to have been caused by a sharp cutting instrument.
State Counsel Indika Nelumsiri appeared for the prosecution. |
