A police sergeant attached to the Pindeniya Police who had allegedly snatched a hand bag from a woman in Kegalle on Thursday was caught by onlookers while trying to make a hasty retreat. Investigations revealed the suspect had snatched the hand bag with Rs 2,840 in it from the woman while travelling in a bus plying from Rambukkana to Kegalle.

He got out of the with the loot and started running when the bus slowed down near a private school in Kegalle,but, the people in the vicinity had caught him and handed him over to the Kegalle Police where his identity was revealed.

The Kegalle Division SSP has directed the relevant officials to dismiss him from service after conducting the relevent investigations. The SSP in a statement via the PPR Media Unit thanked the people for their timely action to catch the suspect.
