Woman leaps from World's End
Nanu Oya and Balangoda Police commenced a search operation to find a
woman who leaped from World's End in Horton Plains on Thursday
afternoon.
Police said P Nanayakkara,70, of Kuliyapitiya might have landed in
Karivitta or Nanperiya in Balangoda.
Investigations revealed the woman had come to Horton Plains alone
after a quarrel with family members.
Infant abandoned on road
Police found a male infant abandoned on a road in Pattakadu
Weppamkulam, Vavuniya on Thursday around 5pm. The infant about three
days old, was admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital. Police investigations
are continuing.
Suspect arrested with shot gun at brewery raid
A man was arrested with a 12 bore shot gun and a bullet in his
possession by Galewela Police when they raided an illicit liquor brewery
at Batalayaya on Thursday. The Police also seized barrels of goda and
other implements.
He was produced before the Dambulla magistrate yesterday.
Heroin suspects remanded
Ratnapura magistrate remanded three suspects arrested with 7.855
grammes of heroin until October 24.
The suspects , residents of Batugedara, Thiriwanaketiya and
Batuwaththa, were arrested while transporting the drug in a three
wheeler in Ratnapura town.
Cattle rustlers netted
Dimbulapathana Police arrested three suspects while illegally
transporting 28 goats in a van at Kotagala on Wednesday. The suspects,
residents of Narammala, Lindula and Waththala, were produced before the
Hatton magistrate yesterday.
Four arrested with cannabis
The STF arrested four suspects with 1.2 kilo grammes of heroin on
Wednesday. They were arrested opposite a housing complex in Dematagoda
and near a Kovil in Peliyagoda. The suspects, residents of Colombo 12
and Wellampitiya, were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for
further investigations.
Illegally imported motorcycles seized
The STF arrested a suspect with five motorcycles made in Japan,
imported illegally. The suspect had displayed them with other
motorcycles in his shop at Battaramulla.
Police said the motorcycles seized are worth more than Rs 1 million.
The man was handed over to Thalangama Police.
Four arrested over murder
Kadawatha Police arrested four suspects in connection with the death
of a 30 - year - old man in Kadawatha. The man's burnt body was found
with limbs removed on Thewatta Road, Ragama on Tuesday.
Police found his body after a search operation following a complaint
lodged at Kadawatha Police by the victim's mother saying her son, M
Janaka Manjula of Ihala Biyanwala, Kadawatha, had gone missing since
last Monday.
Police after tracing the numbers on the victim's mobile phone,
arrested four suspects who are residents of Makola, Kadawatha and
Kiribathgoda yesterday around 1.15am.
The suspects who were interrogated said they had consumed liquor with
Manjula on October 7. They allegedly said they took Manjula to a
building nearby and slashed him to steal his gold chain and money.
Kadawatha Police are investigating.
Murder suspects arrested
Matara Police arrested five suspects in connection with the death of
a person whose body was found with gun shot injuries on his head in
Kirula Kele, Hiththetiya. Police also found the murder weapon , a 9mm
pistol and seven bullets with the suspects. The suspects were remanded
until October 23 by the Matara magistrate.
Man nabbed with timber haul
STF officers attached to Udawalawa camp and Thimbolketiya forest
officers arrested a suspect with a stock of illegally felled teak,
including 257 planks. The suspect , a resident of Pallebedda was handed
over to the Embilipitiya range forest office.
Two nabbed with stolen sugar
Two Cooperative Wholesale Establishment store officers at the
Pemaduwa branch were arrested by STF officers of the Anuradhapura camp
while illegally transporting a stock of sugar stolen from the Pemaduwa
CWE store.
The Police made the arrest together with the CWE division manager and
found 40 sacks of sugar, each weighing 50kgs, being transported in a
lorry.
The suspects were handed over to Wilachchiya Police.
Weapons stock found
The Terrorist Investigation Department and STF officers of the
Buttala camp conducted a search operation following information received
by intelligence units and found a stock of weapons and explosives hidden
in a cave in Maragalakanda, Monaragala.
They were defused by the bomb disposal unit at the Buttala STF camp
and transported to the TID headquarters for further investigations. The
stock included six claymore mines, mine racks, a T 56 and four
magazines, 150 bullets, five hand grenades and four batteries. |
