Royal on top against Richmond

A superb batting performance by Royal College helped them to pile up a massive 273 runs against Richmond College, Galle in the Under 19 tournament match played at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Taking the first lease of the wicket, the Royalists piled up a huge 273 runs in 51.2 overs.Left hander Milan Abeysekara knocked a superb 63 runs with six hits to the ropes and one over it. Right Hander Hashen Ramanayake also contributed with a fine half century(53) inclusive of five boundaries and two sixes.

The others who contributed for the Royal’s innings were Royal’s skipper Devin Pathmanathan (43) who scored six boundaries and a sixer and Sampath de Silva who knocked 34 runs including four boundaries.Waruna Deshappriya (two for 30) and A.K.Tyron (two for 69) were the most important among the bowlers. Richmond College were 82 for four wickets at close.

The match will resume at 9.30 am today at Royal College Grounds.

Royal : 273 for six in 51.2 overs (Roanaka Ahangamage 34, Sampath de Silva 41, Hashen Ramanayake 53, Milan Abeysekara 63, Devin Pathmanadan 43Waruna Deshappriya two for 30, A.K.Tyron two for 69)

Richmond : 82 for four in 28 overs (Sithara Gimhana 38, Poorna Aluthge three for 21)
