Metal crusher used for treasure hunting
Mahiyangana Police arrested a man for operating an unlicensed metal
crusher in an archaeologically important land in Daulikgoda, Mahiyangana.
The suspect, a resident of Keselpotha had damaged the ruins and
artefacts.
Conductor with cannabis arrested

A private bus conductor plying from Embilipitiya to Vavuniya was
arrested with four kilos of cannabis in his possession by Gokarella
Police on Thursday.
Illegal cattle transporters arrested

Four suspects transporting 51 head of cattle in a lorry were nabbed
by members of the Kele Puliyankulama STF camp at the Elikimbulagala
junction on September 26 following a tip off. A spokesman for the STF
camp said that the suspects had obtained a permit to transport only 30
head of cattle but that they had exceeded the number by a further 21.
SLTDA chairman resigns
Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority chairman Dr Nalaka Godahewa
tendered his resignation yesterday.
Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau chairman Bashara Guneratne is
tipped to be appointed acting chairman. Dr Godahewa was appointed
Securities and Exchange Commission chairman a month ago. He is also the
former CEO of Sri Lanka Insurance and was appointed Sri Lanka Tourism
chairman in June 2010.
