Programme to develop primary and secondary schools

Under the Mahinda Chinthanaya concept, a national level programme has been launched to develop 5,000 primary and 1,000 secondary schools in the island.

In Phase I, 24 schools in the Akkaraipattu Educational Zone have been selected and development work is being implemented since last month with financial support of the Ministry of Economic Development.

Repairs, beautification of schools and improving essential services are some of the tasks included in the programme.
