Magistrate says not content with security provided to her
Naula magistrate Rangani Gamage yesterday said she was not content
with the security provided to her by the Police Department and requested
IGP N K Illangakoon to provide her the security due to her in the face
of a perceived threat.
The magistrate in a letter to IGP N K Illangakoon with a copy to the
Judicial Services Commission Secretary urged the IGP to look into
whether she is given due security as the Naula magistrate.
Magistrate Gamage said she is working in the Laggala and Paldeniya
circuit courts in addition to the Naula magistrate's court. The
magistrate said the Dambulla Special Task Force Camp Inspector R
Rathnasiri informed her on October 11 last year that she was under
threat. The Inspector had asked her to seek special security.
She said the officer of the Police Department in charge of the Naula
Judicial division, was informed to inquire into this and report the
findings to her.
She said the officer failed to make any report to her over the
matter.
Gamage said as she is not satisfied with the security, she informed
the Matale SSP and Central Province DIG. She said she was convinced that
adequate security has not been provided to her official residence as per
the IGP's circular.
The magistrate said two officers had been deployed with firearms
while proceeding to the Laggala circuit court. The magistrate in her
letter said she was convinced that she was subjected to threats while
returning from the Laggala circuit court on September 7 and 21. |
