Gale havoc in Moneragala

A strong gale destroyed over 75 houses in Wellawaya, Moneragala ,Buttala areas, said Moneragala Disaster Management Unit Assistant Director Ravindra Cooray.

"The roofs of 40 houses in Randeniwala in Wellawaya D.S area and 36 houses in Bohitiya, Veheragala of Moneragala D.S.area, six houses at 14th mile post in Kumbukana, Buttala and about 40 houses in the Wellawaya,Kurugama, Randeniya and Siyambalagune were damaged.

'Many houses in the Madagama area have also been destroyed, "said Cooray. Vocational training students of Kumbukana ,Gangarama temple had a narrow escape when the roof of their centre was also blown away by strong winds.

A branch fell on a moving bus on the Kumbukana Malingawila road but nobody was hurt.

Several electricity posts had fallen on the Siyambalagune, Randeniya, Kiriyagolla road making it impassable.
