Korean help for Lanka's cuttle fish industry

Members of a leading Korean company visited Sri Lanka to explore ways
of supporting the island's cuttle fish industry.
D J International Chief Executive Officer Shin Soo Yong and officials
had talks with Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr
Rajitha Senaratne in this regard.
Shin visited Puttalam and Kalpitiya with National Aquatic Resources
Agency officials and explored how the Korean government could assist Sri
Lanka in the cuttle fish industry.
"It is believed that squid, cuttle fish and octopus resources of the
country are under utilised due to the lack of appropriate fishing
technologies. We hope to obtain technical assistance from Korea in this
regard," the minister said.
The Korean trade delegation are also looking to become fisheries
partners with Sri Lanka.
This is following discussions Minister Senaratne had with Korean
officials during his recent visit to Korea to participate in the Yeosu
EXPO 2012.
