Free spectacles for children

The Health Ministry will provide free spectacles among children in government schools in the Kurunegala dsitrict.

Around 490 mobile eye clinics were conducted to identify students with poor eye sight. Around 15,000 students in remote areas will benefit under the programme named Vision 2012.

An official said the programme is funded by a private firm.

He said 2,590 school teachers and Heads will be provided spectacles as medical tests have proved 25 percent of teachers in the North Western Province have poor eye sight.
