IUSF convenor gets bail

The Convenor of the Inter University Students Federation Ranhoti Bandaralage Sanjeewa Mahesh Kumara who was taken into custody for leading a student protest in the vicinity of Fort Railway Station which turned violent allegedly inflicting injuries on policemen,damaging a police water cannon vehicle in addition causing damage to public property, was yesterday enlarged on two surety bails amounting to Rs.100,000 each .

Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne warned the suspect not to participate in protests and demonstrations. In addition he was ordered to appear every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD). The case was postponed for October 2. The student demonstration was against the continued closure of state universities except the Medical Faculty and against the private universities.
