WPC approves Divi Neguma Draft Bill

The Western Provincial Council yesterday approved the Divi Neguma Draft Bill with a majority of 40 votes when it was taken up before the Provincial Council for discussion. Sixty four members of the Council voted in favour of the Bill while 24 voted against.

This Draft Bill will be taken up before the North Western Province today while the Uva Provincial Council will discuss the draft bill tomorrow.

The Divi Neguma Draft Bill was referred to all functioning provincial councils for their opinion in compliance with the recent Supreme Court determination over it.

Copies of the proposed Bill have been sent to the all functional PCs through the respective governors to get it approved by the provincial councils before the presentation of the Budget 2013, he said. Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said that it would be taken up by the Council on October 2.
