Police Log

Three arrested with heroin

Three suspects were arrested by Police with 16.050 grammes of heroin in their possession in Matara and Beruwala on Wednesday.

Beruwala Police arrested the first suspect, a three wheeler driver while transporting 3.10 grammes of heroin opposite a fishing harbour in Beruwala.

The suspect, a resident of Ratmalana was produced before the Kalutara magistrate yesterday.

The other two suspects were arrested by the Matara Police Anti - Vice Squad with 13.20 grammes of heroin in Paburana and Kamburupitiya.


Body found

Grandpass Police found the body of a man by the side of railway track near Kalu Palama, Grandpass on Tuesday.

The man appears to be around 35 years and was attired in a pair of shorts and a green short sleeved shirt. The victim about 5'2" in height had an artificial limb below his right knee.


Youth dies in train crash

A youth aged 18 died after being knocked down by a train at Bambalapitiya on Wednesday night. I Mohommad of Grandpass died in the incident.


Chain snatch thieves remanded

Two suspects who allegedly snatched a gold chain worth Rs 53,000 from a woman in Mahiyangana was remanded until September 11 by the Mahyangana magistrate.

They were arrested by Mahiyangana Police on Tuesday.

The suspects had snatched the chain while the woman was watching the Mahiyangana Rajamaha Vihara perahera.


Police probe teen's death

Horana Police are investigating the death of a 17-year- old whose body was found hanging at his home in Batuwita on Wednesday.


Suspect with heroin remanded

A suspect taken into custody with 35 grammes of heroin was remanded until September 11 by the Gangodawila magistrate.

Another suspect arrested for allegedly stealing a gold chain worth Rs 125, 000 was remanded until September 12 by the Polgahawela magistrate.


Four held for theft

For suspects wanted in connection with a series of crimes were arrested opposite a filling station in Godagama by the Western Province Intelligence Unit on Wednesday.
