ACHC deplores animal sacrifice
The All Ceylon Hindu Congress (ACHC) points out that animal sacrifice
or any cruelty to life is an Act of Sin and unacceptable. A press
release signed by the ACHC president V Kailasapillai and General
Secretary Kandiah Neelakandan states:
“We, the All Ceylon Hindu Congress (ACHC) have made from time to time
our repeated requests not to have sacrifices of animals in Hindu Kovils
which we have pointed out is an Act of Sin not acceptable to our
religion. Any cruelty to any life - human beings, animals or bird - in
the precincts of a Hindu Kovil should not be allowed.
“We regret to hear that an animal sacrifice event is to take place on
September 1, 2012 at Muneeswaran Pathurakaliammam Kovil.
“We appeal to the Kovil Management and priests not to proceed with
the same. “At the same time, we appeal to the politicians and non-Hindu
religious groups not to interfere in this matter and make it a political
issue or create religious disharmony.
“We request them leave the issue to the Hindus to handle it. It
should be appreciated that certain issues or problems in a religious
place are socially related matters.
