Relics arrival not linked to any political agenda - Thera
Priyanka KURUGALA
There is no political agenda behind the Kapilawasthu Sacred Relics
Exposition since it is inconceivable that people will cast their vote
based on a religious event, Ven Welimitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera said.
“We have to concede this is a great occasion for Sri Lanka. Thousands
worshipped the Sacred Relics with great fervour and devotion,” the Thera
said.
“It would also be a good if the Sacred Relics could be kept at sites
hallowed by the Buddha’s visit to the country,” Ven Kusaladhamma Thera
said.
Meanwhile, Ven Prof Kamburugamuwa Vajira Thera said whatever
Opposition parties say, the arrival of Sacred Relics is a special honour
and privilege to the country.
“It is a path to develop the relationship between India and Sri
Lanka. On the other hand, the government is not weak to seek votes
through a religious event,” he said.
“Devotees consider this event similar to the Buddha’s arrival to the
country. However some bankrupt political parties are trying to create an
unwanted issue,” the thera said.
