'Gold coin at your wedding day scheme' gaining popularity

The Bank of Ceylon recently, gifted the eleven thousandth's (11,000)
gold coin to a young woman on her wedding day under the 'Gold coin at
your wedding day scheme.'
The scheme is fast gaining ground in both the North and East, where
the Bank of Ceylon has 58 and 52 branch offices respectively. The
predominantly Tamil population in these districts, have special
reverence for gold, said a spokesman for the BoC Marketing Division.
In addition, the scheme has proved popular in both Kandy and Colombo
amongst all strata of society. The eligibility to enter the scheme is to
maintain an account of Rs.100,000 for a one year, said the Managress of
the BoC Kollupitiya 2nd K.C.K.Wijewardena.
Inaugurated in 2011, the scheme had become immensely popular amongst
brides, she explained. "All that is required is for a prospective bride
who is an account holder, to inform the branch one a week before her
wedding date. On her wedding day, she is entitled to receive a gold
coin. At its inception, a soverign was gifted. But since 2006 , a
3.11gramme coin valued at Rs. 27,00 is gifted said a spokesman for the
BoC Gold shop.
The gold under the brand name 'Canadian Maple Leaf' retains a 999.9
purity and is directly imported, he explained. Just over 1000 coins are
sold annually, he revealed. In contrast the gold in the local market has
a purity of 965, he added. |
