Trinity take Under 16 Division one rugby title

Trinity College became the schools Under 16 Division one rugby
champions by defeating their traditional rivals Royal College by 10
points (two tries) to nil in the cup finals played at the Bogambara
Stadium, Kandy yesterday.
At half time Trinity led 10-0. Try scorers for Trinity were scrum
half Anuka Boyagoda and winger Charitha Nanayakkara who made a 50 metre
dash to the try line Dimithri Gunasekera refereed. In the cup
semi-finals Royal College beat Mahanama College by two penalty kicks to
one after the scores stood blank even after extra time.
In the second semi-final Trinity College beat St. Joseph's College
5-3.
The quarter-final saw Mahanama beat St Peter's by three penalty kicks
to nil after the match ended in a scoreless draw.
Royal beat Kingswood by the toss of the coin after even the penalty
tie breaker system failed to break the deadlock. St. Joseph's beat
Isipathana by three penalty kicks to nil. Trinity beat Prince of Wales
by 27 points (one goal, four tries) to nil.
Plate Championship
Defending Cup Champions St. Peter's won the Plate Championship by
defeating Isipathana by 10 points (two tries) to nil in the finals. At
half time Peterites led 5-0.
Winger Luke Lakshan and Skipper cum Lock Senura Premawardena scored a
try each for the Peterites.YMS Ratnayake refereed.
Bowl Championship
St. Thomas, Mount Lavinia won the Bowl Championship by defeating
Wesley by 5 points (one try) to nil in the finals. Winger Richard Samuel
scored the winning try for the Thomians.
Shield Championship
Lumbini College won the Shield Championship by defeating Ananda
College by 5 points (one try) to nil in the finals. Ishan Vinod scored
for Lumbini. |
