Three drown
Three youths drowned in Kalutara, Talatu Oya and Meegahatenna on
Friday and Saturday.
Of the four youths who fell into difficulties while swimming in the
Kalido Kalu Ganga, Kalutara, one died on admission to Kalutara Philip
Gunawardena Hospital.
Another youth is receiving treatment at Nagoda Hospital while the
other two were discharged. Police identified the deceased as P V Ashen
Salitha of Kelanigama, Bandaragama. Meanwhile, a trainee soldier drowned
in a tributary of Bentara Ganga while crossing the river during an
exercise.
Police reported that soldiers were undergoing training at Dombagoda
Army Training School during an exercise in Yagirala forest where they
had to cross the tributary. H M Sunil Jayarange, 21, of Ranminitenna,
Tissamaharama died in the incident. Meanwhile, Talatu Oya police are
investigating the death of a 25 -year - old who drowned in Mahaweli
Ganga near Gurudeniya Temple in Talatu Oya. N Madusanka Madanayake of
Akmeemana died in the incident.
Body found
Kadawatha Police found the body of a 52-year- old man near a garment
factory in Gonahena on Saturday.
Police identified him as M Ariyadasa of Uduwila, Delgoda. The Mahara
magistrate conducted the inquest in to the death.
Bund collapses killing woman
A female labourer working at a road renovation site in Mawanella died
after an eight feet high bund collapsed on her. M Laisa, 58, was rushed
to Kandy Hospital where she died.
Man nabbed with tusks
A suspect was arrested with two elephant tusks in Nugawela, Hungama.
Police recovered the tusks when they raided the suspect's house
following a tip – off.
Boy injured
A 15 - year - old boy was hospitalised when he accidentally trampled
an anti-personnel mine in Janakapura on Saturday. The boy was walking
along a forest near his home to collect firewood when he faced the
mishap.
Weli Oya Police are investigating.
Customer arrested with fake note
A suspect was caught by a shopkeeper in Pothuhera when he attempted
to buy goods with a counterfeit note in the denomination of Rs 500.
The suspect was handed over to Pothuhera Police.
Heroin raid
The Police Narcotics Bureau arrested four males and four females and
seized 41.680 grammes of heroin from their possession during a raid in
Magazine Road, Borella on Friday.
Police said the suspects were arrested separately.
Illicit abattoir raided
Weeraketiya Police criminal investigation branch raided an illegal
abattoir at Yaggasmulla and took into custody two suspects with 122 kgs
of beef on Friday. |
