‘SME 2012’ ends on a grand note

The seventh edition of the National SME Machinery, Technology and
Services Exhibition ‘SME 2012’ was concluded yesterday on a grand note
at BMICH with a record number of participants.
Over 100 small and medium scale exhibitors in the industry, light
engineering, agriculture, fisheries, and livestock showcased their
innovative products and services in Sri Lankan and Indian pavilions at
the three-day exhibition and the exhibition was an ideal platform for
local small and medium industry entrepreneurs to build much needed links
for future business developments and to showcase their
machinery,technologies and support services.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen speaking at the
opening ceremony of SME 2012 said that SME sector can play a crucial
role in enhancing economic growth in post-war Sri Lanka and for the
first time, Sri Lanka will introduce automation to its crucial Small and
Medium Enterprises sector by introducing Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC)
machine technology. The ministry has spent $ 120,000 to infuse CNC
technology awareness to the SME sector.
The SME 2012 was organized by Small and Medium Enterprise
Developers,Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka
in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
