Around Rs. 550m Nuwara Eliya development project launched

Over 27 km road stretch from Blackpool Junction Nuwara Eliya to
Worlds-End is being reconstructed and carpeted on the
instructions of Public Management Reforms Minister Navin
Dissanayake who represents the Nuwara Eliya district. Here, the
minister operates the carpeting machine inaugurating the
reconstruction work.

The government has begun work to carpet the 27.2 km road from Nuwara
- Eliya Blackpool Junction to World’s End and around Rs.550 million has
been allocated for this purpose.
“We have taken measures to reconstruct and carpet this road to uplift
the livelihoods of the people in the area. The value of lands in the
area will increase once this project is complete. This road
reconstruction project will also help create more self employment
opportunities,” Public Management Reforms Minister Navin Dissanayake
said.
The minister was speaking while participating to the inauguration
ceremony of the Nuwara Eliya Blackpool Junction to the World’s End road
development programme recently.
“The roads from Kandy to Nuwara - Eliya, Nuwara - Eliya to Kandapola
- Ragala Road, Nuwara-Eliya – Badulla, Bandarawela road have already
been carpeted and measures are in place to complete development
activities of the road from Blackpool Junction to World’s End, “he
added.
He said road development projects will help attract more investments
to this area and help to develop the tourism industry as well. “All
measures are in place to build a new hospital in Nuwara - Eliya
Divisional Secretariat. Problems relating to lands and land deeds will
be solved and ownership granted to the rightful owners, “ Minister
Dissanayake said.
“The agriculture sector in Nuwara-Eliya district will also be
developed with seed villages being set up. Roofing sheets and other
building materials will also be provided. The development programes are
to be completed within the next four years.”.the minister further said. |
