Electricity failure costs elder's life

A man walking down a staircase died after losing his footing during an electricity failure recently.

This was revealed at the inquest on the death of K G L Colson, 65, a resident of Dikwella by the inquirer into sudden deaths, T M Lalith de Silva.

The wife of the deceased, Nalini Gamage, in evidence said on the day of the incident she was watching television around 7pm.

"I saw my husband coming down the stairs. Suddenly there was a power failure. I heard a noise suddenly and I rushed. My husband had fallen near the staircase. He was rushed to hospital where he died," she said.

The inquirer recorded an accidental verdict of death due to excessive bleeding after a fall.
