Power cuts for few more days

The Ceylon Electricity Board yesterday said that the temporary power cuts will continue for several days due to the loss of 400 MW to the National Grid following the deactivation of the Lak Vijaya power plant. The Power and Energy Ministry in a release yesterday said that power cuts will be imposed around the country under four categories.

According to station engineers, the operation of the power station would be resumed within the next two days.

CEB chairman Prof Wimaladharma Abeywickrema said the Kerawalapitiya thermal power plant will add 100 MW to the National Grid by evening of July 28 or 29. He said the daily power demand is above 2050 MW.
