‘UPFA will receive bigger mandate’
Gayan Rajapaksa and Tennakoon Kulasekara
The UPFA will win the forthcoming North Central Provincial Council
elections with a bigger mandate than before because the Province has
achieved rapid development both under the tenure of the previous Council
as well as national development programmes launched under the Deyata
Kirula Exhibition, Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S M
Chandrasena said.
Minister Chandrasena said another factor in favour of the UPFA was
that the people of Rajarata had a high regard for the President for
enabling them to enjoy freedom and engage in their vocations without
fear by eliminating the terrorist menace and this was the first
Provincial Council election held in their area after the return of
peace.
Minister Chandrasena was addressing an election rally held at
Horowpothana in support of UPFA candidate S M Ranjith. Minister
Chandrasena noted that the NCP had achieved unprecedented development
and progress under the Deyata Kirula development programme, encompassing
the roads, agriculture, irrigation, education, health, cultural and
religious and many other sectors.
Another factor in favour of the UPFA was the absence of a strong
opposition to challenge the UPFA at the forthcoming election.
The UNP had undergone a major schism with its Leader and Assistant
Leader pulling in different directions and another section going behind
a defeated Presidential candidate.
The JVP had become a spent force with its grass-roots support
severely eroded.
The government on the other hand had rendered a great service to the
country by taking development to all parts of the country.
Therefore the people would take a sensible decision and return the
UPFA to power in the Provincial Council with a bigger mandate to endorse
its policies and enable it to continue the good work. |
